چکیده
We consider exploration problems where a robot has to construct a complete map of an unknown environment. We assume that the environment is modeled by a directed, strongly connected graph. The robot’s task is to visit all nodes and edges of the graph using the minimum number R of edge traversals. Deng and Papadimitriou [Proceedings of the 31st Symposium on the Foundations of Computer Science, 1990, pp. 356–361] showed an upper bound for R of dO(d)m and Koutsoupias (reported by Deng and Papadimitriou) gave a lower bound of Ω(d2m), where m is the number of edges in the graph and d is the minimum number of edges that have to be added to make the graph Eulerian. We give the first subexponential algorithm for this exploration problem, which achieves an upper bound of dO(log d)m. We also show a matching lower bound of dΩ(log d)m for our algorithm. Additionally, we give lower bounds of 2Ω(d)m, respectively, dΩ(log d)m for various other natural exploration algorithms.

Exploring Unknown Structured Environments
This paper presents perceptual algorithms for corridor navigation, door detection and entry that can be used for exploration of an unknown floor of a building. The algorithms are fairly robust to sensor noise, do not use odometric data, and can be implemented on a low end PC. The primary sensor used is a laser range scanner.

متن کاملPolygonal approximation of uncertain height fields for outdoor navigation - Decision and Control, 2000. Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on
Exploring unstructured and unknown environments is one of the most important tasks of mobile robotics. Usually, in outdoor navigation, exploring unstructured environments is based on or is functional to map making procedures. This paper deals with the problem of representing and updating maps from height field measurements. A technique for dynamic updating maps, in the presence of bounded uncer...
متن کاملExploring the Meaning of Quality from Urban Space Users’ Viewpoint by Analyzing Conceptual Environment Codes
The main purpose of urban design is to create good and high-quality urban spaces and environments for people to live while such quality may not be determined only by imposing a structural, perceptual and value system of the designer. It can be said that human and his powers to perceive surrounding environments are the focus of urban design. Having reviewed previous researches and theories in re...
